Working experience:

He has been a lawyer and a notary public since 1983. In 1994, with avv. Lara Toma, he set up the law firm Studio Legale e Notarile Bergonzoli & Toma. He is on the roll of the Swiss bar association and on the roll of Notaries Public of the Canton of Ticino.

In 1989 he became a Member of the Board of Directors of Banca dello Stato del Cantone Ticino and was the Chairman of the Board from 1999 to 2004.

He was the Chairman of the Board of Directors of Terreni alla Maggia SA from 2003 to 2019 (IHAG Group, Zurich), a company which deals with wine growing and wine production as well as with hotel tourism.

Public activity:

Within his political commitment, he became a member of the Town Council of Ascona in 1984 and was the Mayor of Ascona from 1988 to 1992. He was then a Member of the Gran Consiglio del Cantone Ticino from 1995 to 2003.

In his capacity as a Member of the Gran Consiglio, he was one of the proposers of the bill for the establishment of the Università della Svizzera Italiana and the Chairman of the tourism law committee, and collaborated in the revision of the Canton Constitution.

Also, he is a member of several associations – both public and private – which promote tourism.
